Confession Time boys prayer

Lord, You have brought me to this place and there is nothing that I can hide from you any more. Prepare me Lord for this confession to my spouse. I seek Your guidance, Your presence, Your face, Your strength and Your grace to get the both of us through this situation. Lord smooth this confession and allow me to rest in the knowledge that You are in control. I pray for Your comfort over (enter wife’s name) and able her to receive Your grace throughout this testing time. I am ready to acknowledge my involvement in (confess sin) and  allow (wife’s name) to accept my plea for forgiveness. No matter what we both face You are in the process and I will trust You with it. Lord I offer this confession to glorify You, and to disarm   the enemy. In Jesus’ name I pray Amen.

Battle for the Mind prayer

Father, I no longer come to You through a veil of darkness but through Your son Jesus Christ. I ask You to put a new song into my heart so that I can praise You throughout this battle. You have supplied everything that I need to stand firm against Satan my enemy. You have prepared and made ready for me spiritual armour that will resist and defeat every attack I come up against, so teach me how to use it. I confess that a rebellious heart, a debased mind, and meditating on the wrong things has led me straight into the pit that I now find myself in. I no longer base my abilities on how I feel but on what Your word says, so use me that I may be a terror to the enemy.  Holy Spirit, heaven is my final destination, so convict me every time my eyes and my mind start to wander, Lord I fully surrender everything to You through this battle so that You may have the glory.  Amen

The Quitters Check List prayer

Father, I know what I should do to help myself, but my love for pornography has ensnared me. Do a new work in me daily so that I will commit to this list. Help me to be ruthless in my pursuit so that I may cut off every hindrance that is stopping me from being an over-comer and a conqueror.  Lord I have no more excuses to give You. I have nothing else to hide behind. Let every area of my life be closely examined by the Holy Spirit. Lord may my spirit and conscience be unsettled if I fail You in this list. Bringing You the glory Lord means more to me now than anything else. I no-longer wish to give Satan the bragging rights over my life but I choose now to joyfully hand back to You, Your rightful claim over my life. Father, I thank-you for being relentless in Your pursuit of me,  Amen.

A Heavenly Benefits Package?

BEAUTY FOR ASHES – HELP FOR A HURTING WIFE

DAY 20 – Remember all His benefits

PSALM 103:2-5 – Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

What a wonderful scripture, packed full of fantastic benefits.  God is a good God and He wants to pour out His blessings on you.  He wants to see you live an abundant life full of health and happiness.  Just like we would do anything for our children, our Abba Father wants to lavish us with “good things” too.

What are all the good things God has done for you?

As well as the ones listed in this verse, I try to remember ALL His benefits – this is the best way to bring yourself out of the sadness you may feel. Here are a few I have thought of, I’m sure you can think of many more.

He knit you together with love and perfection
He knit you together with love and perfection

God gave you life!

You are a beautiful woman who has been fearfully and wonderfully knit together in her mother’s womb.  So, gift of life is the first benefit.  All the senses that come with life are also benefits, we can see, hear, taste, smell, and feel so that we can enjoy all the beauty of creation which God has designed for us.  These are the simple but essential things of life which we can take for granted.

We have air to breathe, clothes to wear, water to drink, food of all different colours, tastes and consistencies.  Some we love, some we don’t, but others do!  God could have made just bread and water for us to survive on, but He didn’t!  He delights in us and so He made everything different and exciting, He is so creative.  These are all benefits to remember and to thank God for.

The Greatest Benefit is Jesus Christ Himself

What other King would leave His throne to live a humble life on earth knowing He was going to be hated, mocked and tortured and then to forgive the very people who killed Him.  He took those stripes on His back so we could be free from sickness, hurt and pain.  He endured great pain and suffering on the cross so we could be forgiven of every sin, past, present and future.  He even called it a joy to do this for us!  He died and went to Hell to defeat death and to set the captives free.  Finally, He rose again on the 3rd day, victorious, and then ascended into Heaven and is now interceding to the Father on our behalf.  He didn’t leave us alone though, because the same Spirit that raised Him from the dead is alive in us!  Always remember that benefit – the same power that raised Christ from the dead is alive inside of us! Waow!

Focus on God’s Promises, Not Your Problems

As you continue to thank God for all these benefits, you are coming into agreement with Him and coming into line with the plans He has for you instead of feeling angry and bitter which falls right into the plans of the devil. The Bible tells us that God has extraordinary plans for our lives, so open up your heart and allow Him in.  Put your faith and trust in God and His Word, and believe that what He says is true, even when your circumstances say otherwise. We have to try look beyond our problems and focus on the promises of God, knowing that He is always faithful and is committed to helping us.  If your life is painting a negative picture, and when you’re tempted to grieve or complain, instead, put your faith in God and His promises. By doing this, you are looking with the eye of faith to the good outcome that God has planned for you.

Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Keep Your Eyes on Jesus
Keep Your Eyes on Jesus

When David wrote this psalm, He was aware that as he rejoiced in God, instead of fretting about His problems, He would be in high spirits.  He knew that His praises would fight off the enemy and his attacks, and would instead bring the presence and power of God into his circumstances.

Psalm 8:2 Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.

Each time you and I are in a trial, we need to choose between either focussing on our problems, or the Lord’s promises.  What are you focussing on today?  Make the right decision and choose the better and more victorious way!

A Heavenly Benefits Package?

I like to think of this Psalm as a heavenly benefits package!  There is no other health policy on earth that could ever match this one and it doesn’t even cost you any money!   What other benefits package can do the following:

1. Forgive you of your sins

2. Heal you of all your diseases

3. Redeem your life from destruction

4. Crown you with loving kindness and tender mercies

5. Satisfy your mouth with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle

This verse supplies everything that we need in life.  If we were offered a package like this from some insurance salesman, we would give everything we had to have it.  The good thing is it doesn’t cost us anything, however, it cost Jesus everything, He has paid it all!

Pray the Psalms
Pray the Psalms

Turn the Psalms into Your Own Personal Prayers

If you find it difficult to find the right words to pray, and I know from personal experience, that when in the midst of difficulty or trial, it is so hard to find words to pray, then go to the Psalms. God has already provided all the content of our prayers there, so we don’t have to work our how to put our words together.  How thoughtful is that?

Our words, and especially God’s words, are powerful tools. As you say them out loud, they make their way inside of you and become engrafted into your heart. You might not feel like praising God, but it’s good to speak words of praise even when you don’t feel like it. It’s good to exhort your soul to praise God.  As you do, you begin to stop dwelling on yourself and your emotions and you will start looking at God instead.

Confession

Help ! I’m a Christian get me out of here!

Confession is a major hurdle for anyone caught up in sin, especially sexual sin. This is probably the biggest stumbling block for most people seeking true and lasting freedom from pornography. They are happy to confess their sins against the Lord 1 John 1 6 but when they have sinned against others James 5:16 such as their spouse in the form of Pornography, adultery, cyber-sex, chat-rooms etc  these sins must also be confessed to disarm the enemy.

– time to disarm the enemy –

The reason we need to confess to our spouses is because we are one before God through marriage, we are one flesh in His presence Matt 19 5-6.  What affects me- my spirit – also effects my wife – her spirit. Confessing to your wife is also a way of keeping you humble and vulnerable rather than living with an attitude of simply getting away with it. Hidden sin eats us up from the inside  Psalm 32:3-4 and keeps us powerless to fight back. It also breaks the chain of lies and deception that we have nurtured up to this point. Sin thrives in darkness and layers on the guilt, shame and condemnation.  Once the light of truth is shone, all it can do is wither up and die like fungus.

On my own journey this was the most difficult decision that I ever had to make, confessing to my wife about my secret life.  I have experienced Psalm 32 in my life and felt the effects of verses 3-4 and it is not a very pleasant experience. I had confessed all to the Lord but He wanted more. I knew that I wasn’t completely out of the pit until my wife was brought into the picture. I fought and wrestled and tried to compromise with the Lord but His prompting was clear, the weight of His hand wasn’t lifting off me until I made my confession. I had set so many dates and prayed over this confession for weeks hoping that the Lord would relent and change His mind, but that never happened.

So how do you walk up and approach your wife or husband about your sordid past? Well I had two choices. Would I be faithful like Jacob and obey straight away or run like Jonah? Pride would like to say that I obeyed with faith like Jacob but the truth was I was running scared and frightened to death of the impact that this was going to have on my wife, my marriage and my kids – the whole works. To be honest, family life could only have gotten better, the climate at home was rock bottom, stress, rows and arguments were daily, the pressure and tension my wife was living through was incredible.  The kids were constantly upset, we lived in a home full of strife and all of this was caused by my involvement in pornography.

I would come home from work happy enough, but the moment I stepped in the house it all went pear-shaped. You have to understand that if you are using your home for ungodly practices, what you are doing is removing the spiritual covering of the Holy Spirit and inviting unclean spirits in to rule the nest instead. Satan will always go after the authority at home and in the church.  So, since I was the covering for my family I was the main target.  I also want to mention that our home was thick and heavy with a tangible spirit of disorder, nobody felt at peace. There was always strife and can I add that it only happened when I was around because I was the one out of God’s covering.  What I put my family through! They experienced shear hell and torment because I chose pornography over them. I was selfish and I chose to look after my own pleasures, desires and needs. I neglected theirs and almost paid dearly for it.

– zero hour had arrived –

So the time came to confess, the Lord drew the line in the sand for me and He wasn’t wasting any more time on my lack of faith. I knew that had I backed out I would never have had rest or closure and had I never trusted the Lord, He wouldn’t have trusted me with this ministry. I was scared, totally flaking out, still pleading with God up to the last moment, seeking a reprieve but that never happened. What did happen next was strange, when I did take the leap of faith, He gave me His peace and strength to start the confession. I now wanted to confess to honour Him. I had my cake and ate it, now it was time to pay the price for my past. I confessed and left the rest to the Lord, the situation was out of my control. I had no influence as to how it would turn out and how my wife would react or behave but through it there was peace, God was honoured and glorified on my part, now the healing and restoration process in my wife’s life was His job. I had handed to God the release that He needed to operate through by finally trusting Him and His word.

At the time, I seriously couldn’t understand as to why I had to confess to my wife but He was looking at the bigger picture Pro 28:13. Confession neutralized pornography’s hold over my life. It gave me more than a sense of just getting away with it. I now appreciate the damage that it had caused and how I was totally manipulated by it.  For the first time I was able to listen to my wife and share her pain, experiencing first-hand the amount of hurt this had caused – it was a humbling experience and it didn’t sound like me at all.  The Lord formed a united front in our home against this evil, my weakness was exposed. The demonic were stripped of their legal rights to torment our family home and now they had to go in the name of Jesus.

Family life had a 18O degree turn around, no longer is there stress, strife, tension, rows or arguments but peace, joy, harmony, happiness, laughter and a firm presence of the Holy Spirit, so much that folk who visit often compliment about the sense of peace and Holy Spirit presence. If I had confessed only to the Lord, my sins would have still been forgiven and that would be closure for me, but His job would only be half completed because I would have robbed God from the rest of His glory in the healing that was about to follow. My family would have been left confused, bitter and critical, still trying to figure out what the last 15 years were about as I moved on in freedom. But because I was faithful and finally followed His prompting, He was able to work through my wife and kids to bring total healing to the home.

What I have learned through this is that confession is not about YOU.  Sin and pornography affects everybody around you and deep healing needs to be done. Because of the soul-ties that we have formed with our loved ones, they still feel the consequences of our actions and need to be included in the healing process.

– Lessons that I have learned –

  1. Obey the prompting of God, Don’t be putting it off.
  2. Confess your fears to God.
  3. Consider asking your Pastor to be there.
  4. Pray what to say, for the right time and place to say it, pray for an outpouring of grace.
  5. Share the details, be honest about who or what was involved, when it took place how often and how long it lasted.
  6. Answer all questions, but avoid the sordid details – we don’t want to glorify evil any more.
  7. Accept their hurt and anger – don’t get defensive or put the blame back onto them, after all it is your mess that caused it all.
  8. Confess and leave it to God, He is in control now.
